I'm completely stoked about our recent summer sessions! We made it through the heat for some low-key saunasessions with help from PBS, CP and Unity crew. Epic freestyles! Last night we slayed 'em with the freestyle bike at the PNE and Deuce Lite HQ.

This NIght is to kick-off our "TeaJay Tour."
We will be serving tea in this manner in various areas (outdoor, indoor, in the forest, in gardens)
along the west coast, with stops scheduled in the Gulf Islands and some across the border.

This new work from the Pandora Benevolent Society New Media Research Initiative fuses traditional Chinese Tea Service (Gong Fu Cha) with interactive digital media. Replay Your Tea With Me (RYTWM) allows the tea drinker to experience the visual-sensual layering of simultaneous tea ceremonies as they occur in a single experiential field.

Prior to the performance, a separate tea ceremony is digitally recorded with a high-resolution digital video camera. Using this footage, the traditional bamboo tea tabletop is transformed into a tactile projection screen onto which a digital projector (hidden in lantern above) projects the previous tea ceremony onto the cups, teapot and hands of the participating tea drinkers. At the same time, the current tea ceremony is recorded by a camera (also in the lantern), for sharing with future “Teajay” stops on our tour. The experience has both sequential and simultaneous qualities. The ceremony is understood as a link in a long chain of ceremonies as well as a multi-temporal ceremony as it bares traces of past performances.

Exhibitions

First exhibited at Centre A[1] as part of the World Tea Party[2] during the Vancouver 2010 winter games, Replay Your Tea With Me began to connecting tea drinkers and art lovers between Centre A and Chinatown’s Real Chinese Tea Shop[3].

For the summer and fall 2010, Replay Your Tea With Me will be toured and exhibited at a variety of locations throughout British Columbia. At each exhibition, guests will share their tea with guests at the previous exhibition. In addition, the artists will be documenting the installations with the aim of creating a short film

The duo of Crnobrnja & Gloor (aka In Flagranti) are like the MVP's of this new disco shit, always advancing and coming correct with every release. Smutty is the best way to describe the mutant disco duo. They make the sort of records that should be kept on the top shelf, well away from children and those with a weak disposition.

"Firmly Planted Memories" is their latest exploration into the various realms of the dirty disco sound and as usual, the team hits their destination spot on. The title track(1) will get you situated into the electro-disco house groove, with pumping drums and arpeggiated bass topped off with clever scat vocal chops and effects. Kind of reminds me of something off the "Wronger Than Anyone Else" full length. "Where Is Miss Palmer(2)" goes on a tangent to some seriously funky terrain (kind of a new sound for In Flagranti), with more of a breaks-style beat, fat bass and some African(?) vocal bits. Feelin' this one. This EP also features the straight ahead disco sounds of Lord Isis' "Erdoel(3)" and rumbling, tribal swing beat of Eldridge and Huey's "Revolutionary Bust(4)." Don't really know too much about these tracks (possible aliases for IF?), but they definitely do not seem out of place with the rest of the EP. Packaged in a fitting collage pic sleeve by Gloor.

This is like the international sauna super weekend. First, we have the sauna sitting championships in Finland where the finals got so intense one Russian guy died and the Finn got taken to the hospital in critical condition (but totally victorious?). Also this weekend was the Teuva mobile sauna festival now in it's 4th year I think, and things are heating up. Latvia comes back from nowhere (since Ponijpirts dissapeared) with two stellar entries including this pirate ship sauna. We're still waiting for more photos! And of course here in East Van the sauna was as hot as the freestyle session. Stupid HSTax just raised the price of a tank of propane, I think we're gonna just start plugging the mics into the sauna stove from now on. Might get too hot though, we don't want to kill anyone.

This weekend we travel to the mecca of rave. Four days of madness beside the Salmo River. From what I hear Shambhala is going to be nuts this year. The line-up is huge and tickets might even be sold out at this point.

We just rolled the truck back from Squamish! Holy fuck, Basscoast!

The police were so stoked about the saunatruck they insisted we get a tow from Lions Bay up to Squamish after we hung out with them for an hour or two on the highway. By the time we got to the festival our special agents had our riverfront site marked out ready for 4 days of sweaty nights and icewater plunges. The truck was made for this. We were made for this.
