Couldn't be more excited to be hosting this event on Friday with my bro Neighbour.

Homebreakin Records Presents

Body Language 3 : Raw Emotion feat. Sweet Soul Burlesque

Dance: It can be purely celebratory, or conversely, a laser-targeted blast of ideas. It incorporates physical disclosure, allure, submission, danger, or outright protest. The evolution of truly articulate danceforms permit access to the full range of human emotion. The abstract poetry of modern dance, the emancipatory power of early disco clubs, and the high-wire sexual expression of the Burlesque revival are hyper-relevant examples of movement as dialog. The only true global language, these corporeal conversations cross ethnic, sexual, and cultural boundaries in search of synthesis and opposition.

Join us for a night of kinetic conversation and be reminded of your eloquent bodies by...

This cabal of finely attuned physicalities requires scant introduction. After steering the legendary Dollhouse Studios through the murky waters of East Vancouver's renegade music / dance / art scene for over 6 years, they have transitioned smoothly into the finest international burlesque that Canada has to offer. Their presence is undeniable; the uncompromising visionary Crystal Precious, the hyper-athletic and innovative Lindsay Cherry, the ethereal beauty and stately composure of Cara Milk, and the dark fetish fantasy of Tristan Risk will be in full force.

Vancouverite-via-Winnipeg Mark Penner has been a fixture in Canada's live funk scene for years as part of Winnipeg's greatest live dance outfit Moses Mayes. Now, he turns his ample production and performance skills to his solo project that's aimed squarely at the dancefloor. As Cyclist, Mark's releases on Homebreakin / Punchout have received international acclaim, and most recently, his remix with Pat Lok of The Rapture's "How Deep is Your Love" has been selected by the band itself as the winner of the DFA Records remix competition. Expect a fine mixture of deep disco, analog house and re-edit flavours.

This came out last Feb, forgot to post it. Here it is with Soundcloud Preview.

East Van Digital continues to showcase releases & remixes by a wide range of talented producers in a variety of genres & styles...

Now EVD teams up with Woodhead feat. Shamik for the release of their collaboration 'City Dub', highlighting their combination of lyrical flow & classic dub vibes.

Dirtnapper drops a rollin' drum & bass remix that will make ya jump up inside tha place, while Lakeshore Drive adds some organic flavour to his mix, giving it a healthy dose of reggae funk.

Schenk delivers us a twisted glitchy house number, while Self Evident & Gameboy put the sub in their dub, along with some 8 bit mischief.

My dnb alter ego is working harder than me these days...New remix out!~
East Van Digital keeps it fly with it`s next release, bringing aboard a talented team of producers to rework an original collaboration between Dee Bass, Joseph Martin & Spyte. `Applesauce` is a modern underground hip house jam, complete with a funky bassline, unique percussion and lyrics with attitude! Twisting up the track into an upbeat drum & bass floor filler is Dirtnapper, while Discosynthetique remixes the tune into an all-out funky electro breaks jam. Yan Zombie crunks this jam, turning in a jazzed-out rework featuring keys from The Psillionaire, and 22:22 cranks up the electro hop in his highly energized midtempo rocker!

bass at the bass.jpg

Tonight I'm playing music at the Savage Beagle in Whistler with the Bass At The Base crew. Going to be cray.

Remember Bass At The Base?

An alternative to the typical mainstream vibe, this brand new weekly event concept featured all the very best music festival elements such as fire spinning, hula hooping, go-go dancing, creative displays, live art, underground electronic music, lots of extra sound reinforcement and a choreographed light show. As most of you already know, the original Bass At The Base is now over, dead, it's history!

We're so stoked to have re-booked the same headliner we featured at our very first Bass At The Base back in December of 2010 for our debut, sold out, opening night.

Movement as Ritual

As the human brain evolved, it began to receive and process patterns in ever-growing complexity. Repetition, both rhythmic and melodic, became pleasureable, and systems of musical understanding developed independently across the globe. Seeking to express our ability to internalize these patterns, we devised specific routines that were then transmitted and mutated through cultures by way of various public and private dance rituals. Without being fully cognizant of our natural talent for mimicry, we nonetheless found ourselves part of an intergenerational, non-verbal dialog.

Join us for a night of kinetic conversation and be reminded of your
eloquent bodies by...

Scott W : Coastal tastemaker, avid crate-diver, and splendid frisbee
tosser, Scott W serves as a good-natured link between Vancouver's
discerning house scene of the late 90s / 2000s, and the present
environment of inter-disciplinary diversity. For the 'golden
era'-seeking 30-somethings that stayed on the West Coast festival
circuit these past few years, Scott always represented a level of
quality, confidence, and track knowledge that earned him rabid fans
and the reputation for playing must-see sets. As a new generation of
intellectually-minded house lovers discover the rich history of the
music, Scott's tendency to look deeper into classic house and techno
is a rare and laudable characteristic. ALL VINYL SET.

Hxdb : The trajectory of modern bass music has been a fascinating study in genre splintering and diverging tastes. In a few short years, we've heard the invasion of cutting-edge low-end sound design into all electronic genres, for better or for worse. In the best cases, such as Vancouver's very own HXDB, the technology serves the music, allowing a visionary producer to realize a unique, deep, and eminently danceable style. His memorable DJ sets are replete with his own music; a delicious middle ground between broken-beat / worldbeat-influenced drum programming, future-house production techniques, and techno sensibilities. Expect a delicate balance of musical elements and percussive madness, and keep an eye out for his releases upcoming on Vancouver's 10Pin recordings and Palms Out, to name a few.

Trinity Romance's 8th edition of our annual James Bondage Valentines Fundraising Extravaganza has now arrived and donations are officially being taken.

Populated with an array of characters from stories long ago our minds will wander down a garden path of ecstasy and desire in a synchronous mind-thumping beat. This years performances will include the traveling forest creatures known as the Myth Makers, and the ever-riling Sweet Soul Burlesque troupe who are poised and ready to ‘bring it’. The gypsy queen Jezebel will also be seen transforming a brass pole into a medium of art, and passion.

This years line up of bass bumpin’, booty shakin’ dj and producers will feature:

Librarian ( Basscoast) Dagan Beach (Whistler)
Craiger, (SquamishFM)

&Entertainment, K Su Photography, Smooth Sound Productions, Love Hertz Events, Mixmaster Fab Sound System and Lighthead Visuals are all combining forces to bring you the new standard in next level underground events in Whistler, BC Canada!

We will not be using the Bounce Trampoline Venue this time around... we have secured two large rooms elsewhere where we will hold then entire event. Please don't show up to Bounce Acrobatic Center Saturday looking for the event.

We're introducing two separate rooms each with their own respective theme, a full size bouncy castle with padded play zone, comfortable shoes off lounge area away from the action, there are multiple clean washrooms, big time professional sound and lighting all indoors in two comfortable rooms that will accomodate several hundred of our closest friends!

Our friends at LightHead Visuals will be doing a full video mapping visual display.

This event is a totally 100% organic community initiative designed to be free of sponsors, advertising, commercialism and corporate influence. You are encouraged to be as creative and expressive as humanly possible. Be true to your yourself, your surroundings and the people who will be sharing this grounded experience with you.

What do you think a gathering like this might cost to attend?

This next level event is valued at a minimum donation of $20 and that's just enough to cover the rental of the space, production equipment and our entertainment for the evening. We are proud to say that we're taking events to the next level while keeping it affordable so that you'll have enough money left over to take a safe, warm and comfortable taxi home when you ready.

One more thing; we all know how bad bottled water is to our health and to the environment, so being the enlightened people we all are, water will NOT be available for purchase. Never has and never will be at our parties because its just morally wrong to sell water. That's right, water will be free! We ask every single person attending to please, please for your and their own well being and comfort, bring a reusable water container. You will be extremely happy you did!

Request your time off now, find your favorite children's themed costume, dig up some toys, washout your reusable water container, call your friends and arrange to share a taxi, this is going to be one event this year that is not to be missed. The hype is real, now you know the deal. Bounce!

New Year Day Sweatacular!

31 December 2011

I have a dream. Every New Years Day there is a very popular polar bear swim at 2:30pm down in English Bay and I imagine getting all superheated in the sauna and stepping out steaming and casually walking into the ocean, no problem. What a hit the saunatruck would be at event like this!

The problem is we're never awake or in any shape to drive a big truck at 2:30pm on January 1. Typically on a New Years day we've just gone to bed around noon, and the sauna is still hot and probably in use by a few leftover revelers. We actually did have it parked by the ocean one year, 2002 I believe, and I was standing in the ocean on New Years Day (at like 230am, not pm), but we never make it out to that polar bear swim.

This year is no exception. And like all new year's days, we will be celebrating with a sweat. It's also a sunday, which we also traditionally celebrate with a sweat. It's also the Saunasessions 11th anniversary, which we will celebrate with a sweat. That's three celebrations and three sweats, all in one evening.

We'll be at our current location, the Hammock Residency, 1923 Gravely st, alley entrance. The box will be hot from 6pm-12. I have heard that Orkestar Slivovica is also having a super jam party next door, so since we're all down for a good time this should be a new years day to (try to) remember. And if you can't make the swim at least get in a good polar bear shower.

I hope you can wake up, come down and join us.

Special night in the works to slay 2011 and bring in 2012 with a bang. Hope you can make it.

A message from Crystal Precious:
My Dear Darling Sasspots,

Wow. It's been a long time my darlings. So many changes. SO many costume changes! I suppose as with everything, we evolve. And now with 2012 approaching it's like a whole wack of change is on the brink of slapping us in the face. Umm... what the crap is gonna happen now? So many new messages and causes abound... and of course the answers vary with all of us. Different shades and angles, all travelling at varying speeds; bolts of blue, red, and obviously, PINK. ;)

NYE 2012, we regroup - as Warriors of Time.

We invite you to suspend reality for a night and unearth your inner warrior. Be it ninja, samurai, knight or sith. Be it wrestler, road-warrior, droid or drag queen. Use the greats throughout history as inspiration, or move away from them altogether. Whoever you truly identify with, whatever you feel symbolizes your strength, put that shit on. And whatever secret powers you possess... bring them to life in the tradition of our dark Vancouver playgrounds. And then - let's fucking dance.

“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.” - Rumi

Dane dropped this mix to get us sexed up for his set at Body Language at The Beaumont tonight. It worked! Listen here.

See you tonight.

Dane (Common Edit, Edmonton)

The massively successful Foosh / Treehouse / Common empire has spawned many progeny over the years, but none so instantly classic as our man Dane. His all-vinyl disco, soul, and cosmic sets have won the hearts of Soundwavers, slow-ravers, and dancefloor slavers across western Canada, and probably many other places I'm not aware of. He's humble, self-effacing, really funny, and talented. He is also handsome. Check out their "Common Edit" series featuring Western Canada's most discerning editors tackling classic fare.

"A Return to Physical Communication"

As humans, we are capable of highly developed forms of interaction. However, the written verse and the spoken word act as modern incarnations of our primal abilities to communicate dreams, thoughts, urges, and emotions. Through gestures and guttural noises, we catalyzed actions that shaped the reality we experienced, and guided the species forward.

Join us for a night of kinetic conversation and be reminded of your eloquent bodies by our DJs...
