"Each season offers up it's own version of summer's more extroverted charms. Fall's nice for many reasons- I like it because it's the rebirth of our subconsciously internalized yearly work cycle. Remember "back to school"? Copping a couple new binders and notebooks, stocking up the Le Kitt with some Prismacolours, tracking down that crush you haven't seen all summer, getting that ill-fated mushroom cut or the Ross Gellar with the frosty tips... I digress. The idea that we can reinvent or refocus is very useful, and the brisk Autumn breezes and gradual palette of colours changing all around us serve as a reminder that though the seasons arrive in the same order, each year is fundamentally unique and will never be replicated.
So it is with our little dance party, deviating from our vision just enough to embrace change, broadening our horizons to the atrocious amount of talent in our city, all while keeping our hand on the tiller of vibes, adjusting just enough to angle our 18th party into the inlet of passionate dance release."

Nordic Trax Presents
Another Vancouver debut from Nordic Trax, we welcome
Tensnake, aka German DJ and producer Marco Niemerski. He made his name to most with the huge 2010 dancefloor smash Coma Cat, and since then has been in ever increasing demand. Seemingly effortlessly managing the elusive feat of marrying classic disco and house influences to a contemporary sound, Marco is in that very rare position where his music appeals equally to the biggest dancefloors, from Ibiza and Miami, and real chin-stroking aficionados. All of which has gained him a solid reputation as a producers producer. His music effortlessly transcends genres, and the release of his debut album Glow looks set to cement his reputation as a major talent.
Plus Luke McKeehan & Andy Clockwork
Lounge: Spilt Milk
319 Main St
Limited advance tickets on sale 10am Friday July 24 online at Resident Advisor and Ticketzone. Advance tickets available in-store at Beat Street, High Life, Zulu, Vinyl, Puff and Tom Lee (Granville).
Born in Hamburg in 1975, Marco grew up listening to disco, soul, boogie, funk and the finer cuts of 80s pop, from Prince, to the more Balearic tracks from Simple Minds to, er, Prefab Sprout. His older brother also introduced him to other influences like freestyle and boogie to Italo-pop. As he grew older he went through a Mod-period before finding and embracing more dancefloor-inspired influences from Larry Levan to Junior Boys Own, Romanthony to Masters of Work.
With such a diverse set of influences, it’s no surprise Marco’s own music has already shown more depth than most artists manage to achieve in a lifetime.
After starting the Mirau label with friends in 2005, Marco’s first record was ‘Around The House’, which he felt was “a
lucky strike” at the time, but still sounds fresh six years on. The Mirau motto is ‘Not mass but class’ and over the years it has steadily grown into an international label, and released their first compilation album last year, as well
as Erdbeerschnitzel’s excellent album “Tender Leaf’.
It was the aforementioned all-conquering ‘Coma Cat’, which first made Marco’s name. “I knew as soon I wrote it that I had something special,” says Marco, “but I never expected it to be so big, or last so long”. But although ‘Coma Cat’ may have been the breakthrough, the 80s tinged, more cinematic and laidback ‘Congolal’, and ‘Mainline’, Marco’s 2012 collaboration with UK vocalist Syron, and storming remixes for everyone from Aloe Blacc and Friendly Fires to Lana Del Ray clearly showed the depth of Marco’s range. Then there was a sublime mix of ‘Ritual Union’ for Little DRagon, a beautiful downtempo piece which was so good that vocalist Yukimi Nagano herself sang a show-stopping live version of the song with Marco in Miami last year.
It was a sign of things to come. The first single released from his forthcoming debut album, the smooth, down tempo ‘58BPM’ with Fiora surprised a few people when it was released. “That was deliberate decision,” says Marco, “I wanted to make a statement with the first single and surprise people.” With shades of Prince and a brilliant remix from Mano Le Tough, it was another reminder that it was proving impossible to corner this Snake.
When he first appeared on the scene his early releases were seen as a welcome antidote to the omnipresent minimal house scene of the time. If there’s anything Marco is rallying against with Glow, it’s what he sees as the sidelining of the songwriting in the desperation to create big brash dancefloor moments, in the wake of the rise of EDM. “I feel like people have forgotten the art of songwriting,” explains Marco, “which is all important”.
It will come as no surprise to fans of Marco’s mixes, which always take listeners on a journey, that Glow is an album
that stands alone as a complete, cohesive piece of work, rather than a collection of dancefloor tracks collated on one CD. It’s one of those rare beasts, a dance music album that makes total sense if you sit down and listen to it at home from start to finish.
Glow features collaborations with Fiora, Stuart Price, Jamie Liddell, MNEK (British singer Uzoechi Osisioma Emenike), Jeremy Glenn, Gabriel Stebbing (Nightworks)… oh, and the mighty Nile Rodgers from Chic, who plays on two tracks.
There’s been a million misinformed column inches written about the return of disco over the past couple of years, but
for Marco, disco never went away, it’s been an ever-present influence in his record collection and music, so for Marco collaborating with Nile Rodgers was a dream.
“I couldn’t believe he was so grounded,” says Marco. “I sent him a message on Facebook, and didn’t really expect a reply, but he replied himself 20 minutes later and he said he knew my music. I sent him the music and he called me and said, ‘Would you mind if I was just your session musician on this track’ which was amazing.”
The dawg days of summer are in full effect, and boy ain't it great. Beach time, camp stoves, cheap blueberries and a reinvigoration of the physical body in relation to its spaces and places. There's plenty to celebrate, and with a forum like the newly minted Beaumont Studios, it's entirely possible, even probable. With our overlapping goals of dance floor emancipation, exposing fresh talent to our voracious younglings, and a generally good-natured approach to partying, we present to you another edition of Vancouver's best little dance party.
We are so blessed to have our own top shelf Canadian export in the house, representing a unique vision of house and techno. He's collided head-on with the dance music rebirth in Berlin, littered the planet with quality, playable releases, and now he's coming back to the West Coast to share his travels with us.
Recent releases on Cynosure, Highgrade and Trapez LTD have earned a renewed focus on his distinctive production style and extensive discography. With his False Image collaboration with Tom Clark out now on Get Physical - and projects with Pablo Bolivar on Apparel, and Tim Xavier on Alphahouse, respectively - his sound has reached more ears than ever this past year. Meanwhile, his latest full-length, Third Culture, continues to earn critical praise, further establishing his reputation as an artist with as much vision as his abundant skill.
Andy, Andy, Andy. What can we say here. It cannot go unsaid that this man is objectively handsome. With that out of the way, we can focus on the fact that he's been a mainstay of the west coast house music environment since 1999 and beyond. Countless of his crisp, creative concoctions have graced crates thanks to his Clocktower Recordings, and the denizens of Festivus, a regional campout dynamo, know all about his shenanigans both on and off the court. Either way, he's a team player; he'll work hard in the corners, chase the puck up the boards, get it on net, and get to the bench all without breaking his trademark "Esquire" sunglasses / grin combo.

ALL IN TOGETHER NOW
An extended family gathering and focus to heal.
At first glance some might see us as a bunch of misfits, a bunch of wacky ravers acting silly way late into the night, and they might be right. But at some point it becomes more than that. At some point this becomes family. These are the people we care about and who care about us. These are who we call to for help, and offer a shoulder to lean on when the leaning gets heavy.
Recently some members of our family have entered a very challenging chapter, and so we are calling for a full family gathering of epic proportions for support, both moral and financial, and to relish in this incredible family that we all have been adopted into.

HONOUR THY LEO:
Astrologically, if you believe is such things, and the Beaumont does…
A BEAUMONT LEO
People are attracted to the Beaumont Leo’s. We have a zest for life and are extremely warm and give good natured energy towards all the people in our life. Our enthusiasm is what attracts people to us. The Leo's of the Beaumont are social butterflies, not because we want to be, but because people always naturally gravitate and embrace our quirky sweetness. You can try not to like a Beaumont Leo, chances are you’ll fail, its hard not like us because we just can't stop adorning you with our sweet cuddly nature.
While we tend to be fairly balanced and we are totally realistic, the fact that we are hosting a giant party for ourselves is merely another attempt play with maul our friends on the dance floor. We are the Beaumont Leo's and but we do this event without the vanity of your run of the mill Leo.
Some Leos might be too caught up in themselves and be self-centred, but the Beaumont Leo's, not us, at the end of the day, we are never too self-absorbed to exclude a Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces energy to come out and play.
Beaumont Leo's can lift up other's spirits and provide encouragement when times are rough, so if your birthday is way off in a lame ass month like rainy February, we can cheer up your birthday blues and offer you some honorary cat ears, or even a scratch ya in the tail region, see if that motivates you.
Beaumont Leo can help anyone in need, call us for costume ideas, or ways you might honour your own special LEO. Leo’s like to pamper their friends and treat them well and we loooove to get pampered right back. Imagine the excitement of surprising a fellow unknowing LEO with a BEAUMONT LEO PARTY.
A Beaumont Leo is an ultimate friend. We never hold a grudge and we are very forgiving, even if you've missed this event in the past, we will show you the ropes when you get here.
We have respect and understanding of people’s differences and that is why we want you all to come and celebrate us in your own your astrological way. So come play with a ball of string with us. or a bottle of something.

Had the pleasure of creating a video mapped barn for this years Sun Fest in Cowichan. Amazing working with this crew.
What started as an adventure, turned into a tradition and now has become legend. After 2yrs off the Festivus crew took stock, and with much consideration, relaunched in 2012 at a new home ... to high praise and acclaim from the 400 attendees.
Now situated at a private campground east of Osoyoos, up in the hills with our own private lake, Festivus offers a truly unique vibe and venue unlike any other small festival.
Although Festivus has changed with the sounds over the years, the core weight of the festival has and always will be HOUSE. We provide an environment warmth and unity exemplified by the genre, and couldn't be happier about it's recent return to dominance.
We're excited for year 11, as our new home has brought new enthusiastic attendees and seen the return of previous regular friends of Festivus. We are anticipating a fair increase in attendance this year, but as we've always promised, it will never exceed 1000. Bigger names and potential profits (something we've never seen) could never replace the intimate vibes at home feels we get from our Festi-family
