Beaumont-Soft-Opening-Celebration-April-24th-flyer.gif

Get your soft opening down here tonight to check out the all new Beaumont. We're super excited about the possibilities of the new space!

The expansion of the new Beaumont Studios at 326 W 5th has been such an inspiring project to watch unfold. We've all been hustling around the clock to renovate the physical space and also to reinvent the horizons of the studio as a creative home for new artist-tenants, event production clients, and the public at large. With the construction phase nearly out of the way, it's time for us to invite our friends and family to come and imbue the new dance floor with some energy - and to give our hard-working staff and management a chance to blow off some steam and have some fun.

We've decided to do a small prelaunch for our friends to come in and see what's been done so far. Entry is by donation (suggested $20.00) but everyone will be welcomed with open arms regardless.

Neighbour, Howl Sound, Steve TCI and Woodhead will be playing music on a stripped-back version of the upcoming sound installation ($80,000 suspended PA rig), and we will be enjoying some lovely libations from the Beaumont's new Bar / Kitchen facilities.

If you get this invitation, it means we love ya and want ya here. We will be keeping it tight lipped, so only bring your closest friends and lets get a dance on while the space is still a virgin."

I set up a lighting and visuals installation for this great cause.

Feeling like giving back while having a blast out with some fabulous friends and great music? Well here's your chance to do just that!

This is a formal event, so don your best dress or most stylin suit!

Details: There are three ticket options. Your $40 ticket includes a fabulous and elegant party featuring musical DJ guests Clinical Trials (Jimmy Haslam and Todd Wautier) and Heroes of Awesometown (Andy Clockwork and Patrick Kelly) as well as vocals by Ingrid Hakanson, canapes by Johnny Brasco, a drink ticket, and two raffle tickets for some amazing prizes by local businesses.

A small number of $20 tickets will be available for those who cannot afford to come otherwise. Please reserve these tickets for those who truly cannot afford full price.

There is also the option to donate to the event without getting a ticket. All three options will be tax deductible*

We have all seen the news about the Ebola crisis and felt helpless to do anything about it. A very worthy charitable organization, Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is working tirelessly in West Africa to help stop this outbreak. In fact, they have devastatingly lost several of their own volunteers to the disease. This cause is dear to my heart, as I had the privilege of joining the fight in Sierra Leone in January with Save the Children, working for 6 weeks in an Ebola Treatment Center.

MSF doesn't only work in West Africa, but have missions all over the world to deliver medical aid to low-resource environments. They need our help now more than ever. Best of all, unlike many other charities, 80% of donations received to MSF actually go to their relief efforts.

*Your tax credit will be calculated as follows:
Revenue from tickets sold + extra donations from those not attending + revenue from the bar + revenue from the raffle prizes = Total revenue - costs for running the event = Net revenue divided by number of ticket holders and donors = the amount you will each be credited for your tax receipt

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Body-Language-March-7-15.jpg

Tomorrow is Body Language 15 and the final party at the old Beaumont. Excited to see everyone for this send off!

Body Language 15 : The Re-Birth of Cool

Modal jazz has a few precepts that are shared with and mirrored closely in house and techno production. Both forms employ limited chord changes and explore fully the harmonic and tonal content within certain "modes", or derivative scales of the diatonic scale. In addition, both styles encourage the breaking of musical rules, employing atonal, dissonant, and percussive elements to disrupt the listener's sense of safety, of predictability, in the attempt to create a dynamic dialog between "in" and "out". Though the perfomance format is wildly different, the same inputs and creative philosophy prevails, which is the interraction between performers, audience, and some sense of "other" that's being tapped through a combination of virtuosity and spirituality.

Talent for Body Language 15

Rennie Foster - the legend, the dubnut himself. He's the man. Working dilligently on his career that spans decades and continents, Rennie's productions and sets have made an impact that keeps him in demand globally to this day. We're honoured to have such a battle-tested DJ grace the decks at our little jam, and I will put out the warning fair and square that this guy does not hold back and you should expect a full-on throwdown that stands in sharp contrast to what we might consider a "west coast sound". You'll bear witness to a large degree of improvisation and physicality with this wizard of rhythm and tone.

Caterday night disco feb 2015.jpg

I'm on visuals and lighting tonight. this is going to be a full on get down.

Caturday Night Disco
presents

J PAUL GETTO
Nurvous//Guesthouse//Fogbank
Boston, USA

With a repertoire of guaranteed floor fillers, J Paul Getto, can now be crowned the new minister of funk.

The JPG sound is a seamless plenty of contemporary techniques with classic samples of danceable beats and heartfelt emotions that really get the girls in a spin. Though an experienced producer in his own right, it was the coming together at a dinner party in September 2010 that really set JPG off on a path to stardom. With the help of Maurice Tamraz (which was a crucial part of the JPG sound) and Neil Petricone of X-Mix Productions , J Paul Getto mined his own unique vein of sample heavy disco house, creating an impressive body of work in such a short time, releasing tracks like ‘Imma Let You Know’, ‘3000’, and ‘Paris Fried Chicken’ to rapturous receptions everywhere.

JPG is a part of the X-Mix Productions family alongside the likes of DJ Sneak, Armand van Helden and sometime collaborator and kicking house legend, Todd Terry. As a remixer he is in high demand, re-working the likes of Duck Sauce, DJ Sneak, Joey Negro, Louis La Roche, Treasure Fingers, Roy Davis Jr and many more. One of their biggest remixes of 2012 came in their rework of Will Monotone’s ‘Dem Mai Hoes’, a dazzling production which took his sound to every corner of the globe.

2012 saw J Paul Getto play some legendary events across US, closing the X-Mix party with Todd Terry in Miami and featuring on a stacked lineup at Coachella Festival. J Paul Getto continues to release original works and remixes across reputable labels such as Z Records, Diamondhouse, Hed Kandi, Fogbank and with support coming from none other than P. Diddy himself for his remix of Nas' "The Don", his stock is only set to rise further.

In 2013 we saw JPG release tracks like Different Folks & Handle Your Scandal on Dj Mes' Guesthouse Records, The Getto Life EP on Joey Negro's Z Records and several remixes for the prestigious Salsoul label on Ultra Records.

Scuba-Electric-Owl-Feb-15-2.jpg

I'm on visuals tonight.

Intimate Productions proudly presents...

★ Scuba (London UK, Hotflush Recordings) ★
www.intimateproductions.com/djs/Scuba

★ 2015 North American Tour ★

with Matt Hudolin & Bokeh

Saturday February 7th, 2015
at Electric Owl Social Club

For more info, visit www.intimateproductions.com/e/593

Since 2003, Paul Rose – better known to the world as techno maverick Scuba – and his Hotflush imprint have shaped the direction of the electronic scene’s bass-heavy landscape more than most.

Starting with the underground garage sound that became dubstep, and gradually teasing its dark, bass-heavy sonics through abstract electronica, jacking house and cavernous techno, they are the underground tastemakers behind era-defining club smashes like Joy Orbison’s ‘Hyph Myngo’ and 2013’s ‘Untitled’, the ubiquitous piano house banger by Paul Woolford. They also launched the careers of innovators as diverse as Mount Kimbie, George FitzGerald, and Sepalcure.

As a DJ and producer, meanwhile, Rose’s personal achievements have seen him ascend to rank among the UK’s electronic luminaries. He has released three artist albums, spun a mix for the esteemed DJ Kicks series, run a night at Berghain, and won a DJ Mag Best Live Act award in 2013.

A musical contrarian, Scuba has deliberately pushed against dance music currents, changing course when it suits him. After the melancholic statement that comprised his 2008 debut A Mutual Apathy, he released 2010’s Triangulation, a widely acclaimed opus steeped in shadowy cross-genre electronics.

That was swiftly followed by excursions into deep 4/4 rhythms under the pseudonym SCB and then, almost out of nowhere, the release of 2011’s Adrenalin EP which paved the way for the following year’s jubilant 90’s house-inflected Personality album. “Even though Triangulation was incredibly popular I made a very conscious decision not to continue in that kind of stuff” says Rose, “I intended for a good proportion of the people that were into Triangulation to hate Personality.”

As a label, Hotflush’s output has changed as much as the constantly developing Scuba sound. After a period where album projects were the norm on the label, the recent direction has been towards, as he puts it, “the grassroots nitty-gritty dance-scene stuff”.

He continues: “We made a conscious decision to move away from albums and just release singles last year, which worked really well. We’ve released less and tried to make each single more of an event. In 2015 we’re going to be back into albums though.”

Moving forward, 2014 heralded a fresh musical approach for Scuba. Speaking frankly, he explains: “I felt that I’d taken that approach of being intentionally contrary to its fullest conclusion and that it was time to do something different.” The Phenix series of EPs were the first sign of that: a darker, more introspective musical direction melding dancefloor dynamics with brooding atmospheres and spectral vocals.

With a new album scheduled for March 2015 those foundations look sure to be cemented in the months ahead, and with notable releases for Recondite and Locked Groove, the future for Rose and the Hotflush label looks as diverse and exciting as always.

Scuba rarely departs from his hallowed European homeland, we highly urge that you don’t miss out on his upcoming Vancouver appearance on Saturday February 7th at Electric Owl Social Club.

Darshan at Beaumont Dec 2014.jpg

Line up:
Darshan Jesrani (Startree, Environ / NYC)
https://soundcloud.com/startreeny
Koosh, DJ Neighbour, James Flavour

http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?660800
https://www.facebook.com/epiksoundagency
https://www.facebook.com/Homebreakin

More info:
Darshan Jesrani’s recording project “Metro Area” (together with partner Morgan Geist)has left an indelible mark on the dance music landscape. Known for its forward-looking,
freestyle recombination of influences, Metro Area’s work revolves around experiments with classic production styles and the songwriting focus of disco, new-wave/synth-pop
and R&B. Metro Area has injected much needed doses of funk, sensuality, mood and space back into the loop-based and seldom-subtle world of underground dance.

Their 2002 debut album elicited superlative responses from The New York Times to TheOnion, from web-logs to the Wire. Metro Area won a place among Rolling Stone’s “Top
50 Albums of 2002”, a rock and rap-dominated list for which most club/dance projects are not even considered. Further accolades include BBC/Radio 1’s “Dance Album of theYear” and a “Best New Artist” prize at the 2003 DanceStar/American Dance Awards.

In 2007, Darshan caught the collective ear with his co-writing, production and remix work(alongside Ewan Pearson and Klas “Sasse” Lindblad) on “It’s All True”, the debut single from beloved UK singer Tracey Thorn’s (Everything but the Girl) solo album “Out of the
Woods” (Virgin). This release made waves in broader arenas and was touted as a freshand uplifting update of the Funhouse-style, vocal-led, New York City synth-pop sound of the early/mid-80s.

Darshan’s extended “Parks Dept. Dub” remix of “Starlight”, an underground hit by celebrated and hungry New York disco upstarts Escort (July 2006) landed on the yearend
top-10 lists of many DJs known for their selections and taste.

Metro Area 7, the latest in a series of 12” EPs, was released November 2007 to superlative praise. Metro Area’s mix CD for Fabric (late 2008) was considered by Pitchfork to be both of one of the best modern disco mixes and one of the best in the series. In 2010 Resident Advisor named Metro Area’s “Miura” number 1 in their top 100 singles of the past decade, and their Metro Area album at number 2 in their top 100 albums of the past decade.

Having completed the first phase of his studio, which operates out of a commercial loft in Brooklyn, Darshan is preparing a battery of material for release on his new Startree imprint, produced and distributed exclusively by Word and Sound.

Startree’s first release “All-Night People” by Funn City was released at the end of last year and was included in Spin’s Top 50 dance singles of 2013.

Darshan’s unique remixes for Permanent Vacation, Rekids and Mock & Toof, among others, have stood on their own as playable pieces of music, irrespective of the original works.

Darshan performs worldwide both as a solo DJ, and as a DJ and live PA together with Morgan Geist as Metro Area.

Witness the mayhem and carnage of this gory scene in paradise and pardon the dismembered corpses that may be laying about. If you dare, search the corners of the venue for the ghosts of the Intimate fellas who used this place to perform some diabolically devious undertakings in the past, and lurk ready to spook those who enter with libations and haunting sounds delving straight into your soul.

$300 in Prizes for best costumes!

Featuring 4 Rooms with 17 devishly good DJs..

Caturday Night Disco
presents

SOLIDISCO
(Fool's Gold/InStereo)

Duo Solidisco is the fastest growing name in house music. With a fresh recipe that revitalizes the classic sounds with today's musical trends, it's no surprise they're gaining popularity at unprecedented speeds. The duo has DJed club nights alongside heavyweights such as Diplo and Steve Aoki, and their records have been supported by the likes of A-Trak and Laidback Luke.

Featured on "In the Mix" with Kissy Sellout and BBC Radio 1, the duo's initial release, "Hooked" on indie-label "Get Right Records" was supported by LaidBack Luke and DJ Chuckie. The record received U.S. radio play and was remixed by countless DJs. With tracks out on Fool's Gold Records, as well as various releases set for 2014, Solidisco is successfully introducing a retro sound to an EDM electronic era.

Anza Club tonight. I'm setting up an LED lighting installation for this party.

Chinatown Events & Friendly Monster Records present; RED DEVIL DISCO 003 [Red Light Party] at the Anza Club

Deep Disco | Disco House | Boogie | Rare Edits [vinyl only]

SPECIAL GUEST:

DJ OSMOSE, Atlanta, GA (Smokecloud, Whiskey Disco, FMR001)
http://www.djosmose.com/

Turntablist flare with dancefloor sensibility, Osmose has worked with a wide range artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Sleazy McQueen, Ursula 1000, Nicola Conta, Thunderball, Ramadanman, Boozoo Bajou, Boo Williams, Kai Alce, Mykal Rose, Collie Buddz, The Aggrolites, Dubconscious and The Wailers (both versions of the group). Osmose plays a variety of styles from Disco, Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Deep House, to Nudisco & more, but always keeps it analog! With over 17 years experience behind the decks Osmose now spends most of his time touring North and South America with lots of records.

In 2011 Osmose launched Smokecloud records, a vinyl only label that is mastered and pressed in the USA. The label focuses on the slower side of soul & funk based dance music, but sprinkles in a few dancefloor burners. The label is geared towards DJ’s that play a diverse array of venues. Outside of vinyl releases on Smokecloud records, he also has vinyl out on the France based Whiskey Disco imprint and Canada's Friendly Monster records with forthcoming tracks on the Toronto based Long Weekend records, Honey Disco and a remix on the Boogie & Beatdown imprint Rotating Souls.

THE FAN TAN DISCO GANG

* HRISTO [Friendly Monster Records & Honey Disco]
https://soundcloud.com/hristostoev

Raised by a rare music collector while growing through a major revolution period of dance culture of Eastern Europe; later discovering western Europe’s underground music scene, Hristo has experienced and learnt a lot and he has brought it with him to the Canadian west coast. His sets are built with erotic stompers, vintage progressive psychedelics and cosmic funk combined with modern dance sounds; all timeless grooves forming an epic, character rich dance cocktail that takes mind and body on a journey.

Hristo’s 12” vinyl only project Friendly Monster Records marked the beginning of his 2014 music endeavours featuring cuts from him, Koosh and Osmose, both legendary masters with regular limited vinyl only releases. Hristo is also the guy behind Honey Disco Records, experimental label releasing oddity looking and sounding records that are gaining more and more popularity in the underground scenes throughout the world. Started as an experiment back in 2011 with an annual release schedule now the label is featuring some really obscure cuts from Hristo, Koosh and Eddie C. As per usual there is a release party celebrating each release and now also with the idea of doing one in a different location around the world. So far Victoria and Berlin have been put on the map with next one coming out this summer set to be in another major city on the west coast. Hristo edits and reworks are also featured on Smokecloud Records. Osmose’s Atlanta based vinyl only label that is featuring tracks by some very well established and regarded talents in the industry.

* BENDY [Friendly Monster Records 002]

A Summer Serries veteran. Like many of Bendys vinyl only records he can only be heard live.

* INKSTER [Chinatown Events]
https://soundcloud.com/zinkster-1

An all around weirdo with weird eclectic record collection.

Cover Charge: $10 presale - More at the door.
