My new Ep of Soul, Funk, Disco edits and re-works is currently doing it's rounds on the juno download charts. Thanks for the support anyone who purchased the tunes. You'll find them perfect for cool summer nights or hot sandy beach days. Have a great summer xo
Review: "Having previously appeared on Homebreakin' records, it was probably only a matter of time before Vancouver's Darren Woodhead popped up on Montreal's Editorial Records. Next To You is a typically cheery, floor-friendly EP, blending classic funk, soul disco and boogie samples with subtle house and breaks grooves. As a result, there's plenty to excite, from the jazzy guitar solos and sun-kissed disco grooves of "You Blew It", to the dreamy electrofunk shuffle of "So Devine". Those in search of straight-up dancefloor dynamite should head for opener "Party Hearty", a swinging, good-time funk/nu-disco hybrid featuring rubbery bass and razor-sharp horns aplenty."
This remix is my tribute to Benjamin Earl King a great Soul and R&B singer who recently died on April 30th 2015. This song appears on the B-side of the Stand By Me 7" released in 1961.
The first time i heard this song i fell in love with it's lush dreamy flow. I imagine he's singing about making contact with aliens. We might never know.
Always loved Tina Turners rendition of Higher by Sly and Family Stone. Had to put some analog synths and drums to beef it up for a dance floor chugger. Download it on my Soundcloud below. ox.
Our Friends at Some Kind Of Music Blog put together a compilation featuring some fine producers. Hit up their site to download. Link below.
"Today, we are thrilled to begin a new chapter for SKMB with the release of our first compilation album. Over the past year our team of music enthusiasts has blossomed into some kind of family. Along the way, we have had the opportunity to work with a ton of really talented individuals putting a lot of time and energy into creating forward thinking music and events in their cities. This compilation is an opportunity for us to showcase the work of some of the friends that we’ve met along the way thus far.
SKMB Compilation Vol 1 features music by 11 artists from Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and the UK. The album begins with local feel good house favs WMNSTUDIES & KID VIBE before going into a playful house track from Homebreakin Records vet Spilt Milk. Next up is a collaboration from Nelson born, Vancouver based artist Ryan Wells and Calgary’s Wax Romeo, two artists that have been tearing it up on the regional festival circuit the past couple of years. Following is a spacey house remix of local duo CLYPHS by one of our favourite guys in the local scene, BIKES. From there things get a little deeper and darker with music from two Vancouver duo’s, Howl Sound and Clyphs, as well as Toronto based artist Third Floor. The album finishes off with two songs from UK artists, one pounding house track from WATSN followed by a more mellow and spaced out beat to finish it all off from London’s Artikal.
Huge thanks to Michael Levine for sponsoring this album and making it happen!"

My edit of Gloria Gaynor is out on Montreal label Editorial this week. Really pleased to see the ep reach number one for this weeks releases on JunoDownload and my own edit reached number fifteen on the singles chart which is nothing to scoff at:) Check it out below, all the tunes are top notch.
"With sunshine bathing much of Britain, it seems a fitting time for the Editorial label to celebrate the arrival of summer. Heat WAVs, their latest split EP, oozes sun-kissed warmth. Voodoo Whiskey kicks things off with the hazy Balearic deep house bliss of "Desert Stroll", before "Joutro Mundo" drops some compressed disco edit action in the shape of the rather lovely "Roller Shake". Woodhead and Hakatone continue the celebratory feel with a pair of righteous disco-funk bumpers (the superb "Party Down Tonight" and "Sugarbaby" respectively), before Tikki draws an excellent EP to a close with "The Crooner", a curious but effective combination of easy listening vocals and swinging house grooves."
Spiltmilk has just emerged from the lab with an amazing collection of tunes. For the betterness of humanity, he's made all the experiments available for free download off his Soundcloud. Go snap it up!
Hey all friends- I just posted a FREE EP to my soundcloud - most of the tracks samples are full of stuttering scientists. The reason for these collection of songs is to bring awareness towards our personal ignorance of Canada and world's scientific truths. We continue use the money system as an excuse to destroy our world. In Canada, our conservative government has cancelled most government funded research that does not lead to profit. We also muzzle our scientists when they try to speak out against industries that poison our lands, waters, and our food supply.
We continue to poison ourselves with our own chemicals, GMO, and by using non-organic unnatural processes. We are in total awareness that we are just killing ourselves and every other plant and creature on this planet. If you think of the world as an entire whole organism, there is not a single person who would disagree with the fact that we are one very unhealthy and dying individual.
Its time regain awareness of our wholeness as one earth and stop using our own personal wealth as the excuse to ignore the truth.
Thank you for all of your listening and enjoyment and support!

I love producing hiphouse jams. When i found the vocal acapella of Ora's Crab Theory I had to add it to one of the tunes i was working on. Download it on Soundcloud here:
Our new album Voices just reached top 12 on the Bass album charts on Juno Download. We're very pleased. We'll be playing our first live set at Fortune on Nov 26th.
Found the Silk acapella in a pile of 90s rap albums and had to work it into a tune. Free download to celebrate 2000 followers on Soundcloud. Thank you for your support! xo
Silk is fucking sexy. Here's the original tune: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf6xKBIO5gA
We hit #1 on the Disco albums chart on Juno Download this week!
We also got a excellent write up on the release.
More from the popular and hard-working Editorial camp, as they unfurl another five track exercise in joining the dots between disco and house. Label regulars Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee kick things off with "In Funk We Trust", a groovesome disco-funk edit with just the right amount of contemporary production wizardry (think tightened up grooves and drawn-out filters). Loz Goddard dips a toe into deep disco-house territory with the woozy "Over Ur Shoulder", while Tonbe gives a classic funk tune the 4/4 treatment on "Boss of Funk". The two standouts, though, are Brutal Disco's baggy, boogie-influenced head-nodder "Get Down", and Woodhead's midtempo delight "You Gotta Go", a low-down chunk of pitched-down soul.
Cool down with Editorial and a cocktail in the shade poolside!
Pool Party Ep is out now on Editorial. I'm very pleased to have my edit Take You Away on there.
I'm a huge fan of the band The Belle Game. When they asked me to remix their song River I rushed into the studio to play with their lush sound stems. The tune proved to be a challenge being in 3/4 time but I somehow managed to bend it into a 4/4 time signature. I love the vocal, so haunting and powerful. I hope you enjoy.
This three song mini Ep is inspired by Bass Coast Festival. We're amped to be playing music there in August. Bring on summer!
Vancouver’s Clyphs make music to win raves to. Download Clyphs The Bass Coast EP for free via Bandcamp: http://www.clyphs.bandcamp.com/album/basscoast-ep
Comprised of festival heavyweights Woodhead and S2, the pair log more hours on the rave circuit than there are in a year. Seasoned veterans of B.C.’s big three, Shambhala, Soundwave(RIP) and Bass Coast, as well as the Vancouver and Nelson nightlife scenes respectively, Clyphs are well aware of what music sounds best at 6 in the morning, drinking a vodka-gin out of a wine bottle and wearing a wedding dress. Naturally, they have titled their new collection of tunes the Bass Coast EP. Look for a seven track album coming soon from the illustrious Homebreakin’ Records.
Drawing influence from the best of garage, vocal house, and techno, with enough analog synths to make Giorgio Moroder look like a hobo, the two have created a sound perfect for winding the party up, or gearing it down. I mean, Clyphs were meant to be jumped off, right?
Honored and excited to have our song Out Front as the soundtrack to this video. Looking forward to Shambhala 2013. It's always an amazing experience.
